February 2013 Featured Artist: Matthew Gailey

With a crooner and songwriter at the helm, accompanied by eloquent and funky guitar, rhodes and cello, Matthew Gailey’s Beast in Babylon is an eclectic and fresh cross-genre fusion of artsy pop and indie folk rock.

The album features some of the Northwest’s top talent including Anna Fritz (Portland Cello Project), bassist Sam Howard, Seattle-based afro-cuban guitarist Eric Fridrich and newcomers including acoustic guitarist Peter Lance. Highly recommended if you’re into Chris Isaak, Fleet Foxes or Tom Waits. The album’s lyrical content is a mix of inward focus on what drives good and bad in all of us (Beast in Babylon, Your Silent Sea) and ideas of community building and looking outward (It All Comes Back Around).

“I was blown away by Matthew’s voice, the minute he started to sing… I can’t wait to hear what he comes out with next!”
