June 2012 Featured Artist: Carl Wirkkala

The opening line of Carl Wirkkala’s latest offering immediately draws you in and keeps you well taken care of til the last note fades.

“Things That Are True” carries 12 songs, 11 originals along with a heartfelt version of the Johnny Cash hit “Ring of Fire”. This is Carl’s 5th album recorded at Nettleingham Audio and it reveals that the Northwest-native songwriter is not slowing down.

Featuring members from his own “Drifter’s Moon Band”, as well as Portland steel player Paul Brainard, Carl delivers his view of life through his own brand of country music. The line-up consists of Carl on acoustic guitar and vocals, Ron Robinson on bass, Alex Nelson on drums, Paul Brainard on steel, Lucas Holmgren playing lead guitars and keys, and Tim Current singing back-up vocals. The uptempo “Up on my Luck” is sure to get you through any rainy day blues, while the heart-wrenching “Wings to Fly “ is a beautiful close to the album.
