My uncle Stan wrote all of these songs with a little Martin tenor guitar, said Keeter. Over the years, they have been recorded by hundreds of artists with any and all kinds of instrumentation and arrangements. With this album, we tried to get back to the essence of the song, to let the song itself tell us how to play it. To my ear, this approach worked beautifully. I’m very pleased and proud of the result.
Keeter Stuart has lived, worked, and traveled in the West all of his life. Born in Woodland, California and now residing in Portland, Oregon, this gifted singer and songwriter comes by his musical talent naturally; it’s in his blood. Keeter’s uncle, Stan Jones, wrote many fine Western songs including the classic Ghost Riders in the Sky. That song and many other songs written by Stan Jones are included on Keeter’s new CD, Ghost Riders, Searchers & Cowpokes. Keeter and a crack group of local musicians have dusted off these timeless old tunes and have them sparkling with new brilliance and purpose. Recorded at Whiskey Springs Studio and arranged and produced by Keeter and Bill St. James, this CD evokes the wide open spaces of the old West. The gunfighter, the cowpoke, and on horses snortin’ fire, the legendary ghost riders come alive to ride once more in this fine musical tribute to the songwriter legacy of Stan Jones. This CD has been recently released by Comstock Records to universal acclaim throughout Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. Frank Fara and his wife Patty at Comstock have done a great job promoting it and getting it heard.
